It is so important for preschoolers to be ready for Kindergarten. If not it will be a challenge! The more prepared they are for Kindergarten the easier it will be for them to get good grades. I liked Kindergaten and I hope your child will too! The following link is from The Ohio Department of Education. It’s a list of skills all Kinergarteners should have.

Social and Emotional Readiness for School

For those of you that enjoyed Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood as children, there is a series on PBS that features some of the characters (in animated form) that you will remember from your childhood.  Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is based on the same beliefs that Fred Rogers’ held dear, spent a lifetime studying and based his own television show on.  Fred Rogers’ knew that without social and emotional development, children would not be ready for school.  Mr. Rogers’ intended to meet the social and emotional needs of preschoolers by talking directly to them about daily worries and events in their lives and using stories and songs as models for his “lessons.”  Daniel may not where a cardigan, but he uses Mr. Rogers’ techniques perfectly.  Grab your favorite preschoolers and check this out!  I challenge you not to smile when you see Prince Wednesday – who is not to be confused with Prince Tuesday, his older brother who has grown up since we last saw him and now works part time at a resteraunt as a waiter.

To view some of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood online visit:  http://www.pbs.org/parents/daniel/episodes/

Yes, there is an app too…http://pbskids.org/mobile/play-at-home-with-daniel.html

Tonight’s One Call Now

Did you get the call from “One Call Now” tonight?  In case you didn’t…
1)  Letters regarding student accounts to ProgressBook (our online gradebook) will be mailed home by the end of the week.  Letters will include directions for accessing student grades and will include a new password.
2) We will no longer be distributing interim reports to every student.  Obviously, with the advent of technology, this information is now old by the time it reaches your home.  The primary means of communicating with you will now be through ProgressBook, which you can view online.  If you would still like to receive interim reports, you may do so by requesting those interim reports from the secretary at the building in which your child attends. Report Cards will continue to be distributed at the end of each grading quarter.

If you did not receive a “One Call Now” message tonight you may learn to change your settings at: http://www.wapak.org/Parents/OneCallNow

100th Day Celebration

Next Wednesday we will be celebrating the 100th day of school with a special dress up day.  We are inviting the staff and students to dress up as though they were 100 years old.  (However, we are asking that the students not bring walkers or canes).  If you need some inspiration for 100th day outfits we’ve created a Pinterest page http://pinterest.com/clkography/100th-day-of-school/   Please do not feel obligated to purchase outfits especially for this occassion.  Outfits can probably be found by combining outfits that are already in your closets.

It seems as though some elves decorated the principal’s offices today while they weren’t in them.  You just never know what will happen on WACKY WEDNESDAY!
